Levels on the River Mellte in the Brecon Beacons are looking good currently, so if you are looking for a pre Christmas outdoor activity, some Gorge Walking or Canyoning could be just the fit.
Keep in mind we are expecting some very unsettled weather over the next few days however, with Storm Barbara hitting the UK. Whilst they are expecting the brunt of the storm to hit North of South Wales, we will no doubt see some of the effects of the storm, so it is vital you track the rainfall in the previous 12 hours and are aware of any predicted rainfall during your activity.
The ground water levels will be good and the waterfalls will be flowing well and constantly. Remember that with high water levels in the ground, any rainfall will run off straight into the rivers, so flashing is a real concern.
With Storm Barbara hitting the shores of the UK this weekend, conditions for Coasteering are not looking good unfortunately. Whilst we're not expecting to get the full brunt of the storm in South Wales, it will be creating some big swell off our coast, and we're expecting to see swell up to 10ft at times. We're also have some strong Southerlies and Westerlies, making Coasteering even more challenging.
So, with Coasteering off, your best bet for some Christmas activity is to head inland for a bit of Gorge Walking or Canyoning, which is less likely to be affected by the stormy conditions, although you still need to take precautions and be aware of the rainfall.
Whilst the swell will be big this weekend, you'll probably want to stay out of the water on the South Wales coast this weekend. The stormy conditions will make for very difficult conditions across the weekend, with big swell and strong Southerlies and Westerlies hitting our coast throughout. Our advice is to leave the surfing for this weekend and keep out of the coastal waters.
It's Christmas this weekend, so we're taking a complete break from all of our outdoor activities, Stag Do and Hen Party planning and relaxing with our families. Don't worry though, we'll be back in the New Year with plenty more outdoor activities running across South Wales and welcoming Stag Do's and Hen Parties from Cardiff, Swansea and Porthcawl.
All that remains is for us to wish you a Very Merry Christmas from all of us here at Quest Adventures.
