River levels in the Brecon Beacons are good this weekend, meaning both our Gorge Walking and Canyoning activities would be able to run. Ground water levels should also be good, meaning the waterfalls will be flowing well and constant across both days. Whilst no rain is currently forecast, conditions can change quickly in the mountain regions of South Wales, so you need to be aware of any previous or expected rainfall before any activity.
Whilst temperatures are very mild for the time of year, the water will still be cold and when wet you will quickly loose heat, so proper thermal protection is vital for any outdoor activity.
Unfortunately it looks like Coasteering is off this weekend, with the swell being too big. Friday in particular could see some really big swell along the South Wales coast and even Saturday & Sunday will see swell possibly reaching 6ft+, so if you want to get out for an outdoor, water based activity, our advice is head inland to some the mountain regions in South Wales and try some Gorge Walking or Canyoning.
Much the same as last weekend, the experienced surfers could see some really good conditions for surfing. Wind is set to be gentle but swell should be around the 4ft - 6ft range, so there is lots of opportunity for catching some decent waves. Sheltered bays such as Oxwich Bay in Swansea or Rest Bay in Porthcawl could offer some of the better conditions.
Less experienced surfers may find the conditions a little challenging, but Sunday looks to be your best options with swell looking to be a little smaller, possibly around 3ft to 5ft.
Being so close to Christmas, we're not welcoming any of our usual Stag Do's or Hen Parties joining us here in South Wales this weekend for any outdoor activities. But, we may try and get out for one last run around the mountains before the New Year with some Canyoning and even get out in Rest Bay to catch some of those waves.
