Yet more rain over the last few days across South Wales, keeping the river levels on both the Sychryd and Mellte good and the ground water also remains consistent. These water levels are providing a good flow and keeping waterfalls constant. This means current conditions for both Gorge Walking and Canyoning are looking good across the weekend.
Although not forecast you'll need to be very aware of rainfall on the mountain regions of the Brecon Beacons in the 12 - 18 hours previous to your activity. With current river levels already at a good level, heavy rain could cause levels to raise significantly and increase water flow force.
We're likely to see difficult conditions for Coasteering across the weekend. On Saturday the wind direction will be Northerlies and the gentle however, the swell may be a little bit high at 2ft - 4ft. Sunday, the swell will die down however the wind direction changes to Southerlies and Westerlies as well as increasing in strength. You may find the areas such as Caswell Bay in Swansea may offer enough protection being more Easterly facing.
You may find the easiest option is to head inland to the Brecons and join us for a bit of Gorge Walking or Canyoning.
The surfers could be in for some great conditions, particularly on Saturday. Decent sized swell coupled with a light offshore wind to hold the waves up could give you a great day on the water. Protected beaches, such as Rest Bay in Porthcawl or Caswell Bay in Swansea should see some of the best conditions in South Wales.
We're back down at Dinas Rock in the Brecon Beacons this weekend for Gorge Walking and Canyoning with the usual mix of stag do's from the Cardiff and Swansea areas and some more birthday celebrations. We've also got some beach activity days lined up for later in the week and with the surf conditions on offer we'll certainly be trying to get out on the board too!
As always, any bout of heavy rain can have a big impact on river levels so you really do need to stay informed of the local rain if you are planning any Gorge Walking or Canyoning activities. The costal conditions are offering some interesting difficulties across the weekend, with the wind and swell never really matching. Don't let the low swell or low wind speed catch you out as the other may catch you out.
