The recent rain here in South Wales is keeping the river levels on the Sychryd and Mellte gorges in the Brecon Beacons at a good level. The water trapped in the land will also ensure that the waterfall levels remain constant. Conditions are looking good for both Gorge Walking and Canyoning this weekend however, we are forecast some heavy rain on Friday night into early Saturday morning so you need to be aware of the potential of flashing on both gorges. If this occurs both water levels and water flow force will increase and could make conditions unsafe. As always, make sure you're informed of the level of rainfall on the mountain regions to stay safe.
We're due some fairly high swell this weekend, possibly up to 6ft at times. Coupled with the Southerly winds, potentially gusting up to gale force conditions aren't looking safe for Coasteering on the South Wales coast unfortunately. We could see conditions improve into the early part of next week, but you still need to be aware of the wind direction and speed. Southerlies and Westerlies could mean that conditions still remain unsafe.
Not all is lost however. You always have the option to head inland and take on some of our beautiful gorges hear in South Wales, such as the Sychryd and Mellte in the Brecons, and try your hand at Gorge Walking or Canyoning.
We're expecting some decent swell this weekend on the South Wales beaches, so you surfers should be in luck. Keep aware of the wind speed and direction though as we're forecast some strong Southerly winds, gusting to gale force at times. Head for the more sheltered beaches and bays for the best conditions. Places like Rest Bay in Porthcawl or Llangenith in the Gower, Swansea should see some of the better conditions for you.
Tides will be fairly big this weekend, with a low of approx 1.9m and a high of approx 9.1m so to make the most of the swell, aim to surf the incoming tide, which this weekend will be 15:00 - 17:00 and ensure you keep up to date with the changing conditions
Once again we've got a packed weekend ahead of us, with various activities across the South Wales region. We'll be taking some stag do's from Cardiff and Swansea up into the Brecons for some Gorge Walking and Canyoning. We'll also be looking to run some beach activity days for various groups, including birthday celebrations and Hen Parties. If there's time we'll maybe try and fit a surf in too!
You need to be aware of the potential of flashing in the Gorges, particularly this weekend with the heavy rain forecast in South Wales. Once again water temperatures are still going to be low on the rivers, around 4°C and see temperates will be around the 10°C mark so make sure you take precautions with regards to thermal protection.
Be aware of wind direction and gusts this weekend. We are expecting the direction to be Southerlies and Westerlies this weekend into next week and at times we could see gusts to gale force.
